WHENUAKURA ISLAND | DONUT ISLAND
KAYAK EXPERIENCE
Whenuakura Island, also known as Donut Island or Doughnut Island, is located approximately 600m offshore. Whenuakura Wildlife Sanctuary is a geographically unique and historically significant site and was once home to the native Tuatara. The unique shape of Donut Island is a result of the ocean continually eroding softer sediment in the centre. This has created a picturesque lagoon accessible via an opening in the rock and giving the island its Donut like shape. Donut Island kayak trips operate daily, all year round.
Please visit Whenuakura Island responsibly:
-
Land access to the island is prohibited, please respect the island's status as a wildlife sanctuary
